Keeping the dialysis access open and functioning normally is the shared hope of all patients and the care team.
We can approach this together from several directions:
- Patients should have a reasonable understanding of their own access and care for it at any time (see the page How to Care for Your Own Access)
- After dialysis, avoid low systolic blood pressure below 90 mmHg to reduce the chance of blockage
- After dialysis, avoid pressing too hard with a tourniquet on the needling site
- Follow the advice of the dialysis unit care team and the nephrology team, and watch changes at each session and the values at follow-up checks
- Return regularly for access follow-up, and seek a trusted, professional vascular surgery team that can provide complete and timely access maintenance

We hope that, through comprehensive integrated care, we can together raise the quality of care and sustain patients’ health and confidence.
