For “Hemodialysis Access Annual Symposium: 2025 Smart Medicine for the Future,” we are honored to have Kuan-Yu Chen, founder and chairman of AcuSense BioMedical Technology, give a talk. He will share the new artificial-intelligence applications his team has promoted in hemodialysis, and look ahead to the future of smart healthcare.
AcuSense BioMedical Technology Corp. was founded in 2017 in the Tainan Science Park. The company focuses on “patient safety,” using artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology to develop innovative medical solutions that improve clinical efficiency, patient safety and overall quality of care. It combines medical-grade wearable devices, IoT monitoring systems and AI algorithms, applied in dialysis, acute and critical care, chemotherapy infusion and ICU wards.
Developments and innovations related to hemodialysis
In hemodialysis, AcuSense focuses on two core innovations, moving from “real-time alerts after the event” to “preventive measures beforehand.”
Blood-leak detection and alarm system This system is designed for venous needle dislodgement or bleeding that may occur while dialysis patients are receiving hemodialysis. Through a real-time and precise alarm mechanism, it aims to improve the safety of dialysis treatment and ease the care burden on medical staff.
AI hypotension early-warning system By collecting the flow rate, temperature and arterial pressure of the hemodialysis machine together with the patient’s physiological data, this system aims to predict the risk of hypotension that dialysis patients may face during dialysis. It provides the probability, value and alerts for hypotension, so that nurses can identify potential risk early and adjust dialysis parameters in time for preventive management, thereby protecting patient safety.
