The “Hemodialysis Access Annual Symposium: 2025 Smart Medicine for the Future” invited Bang-Chung Liu, founder of Weiquan Travel, and his team to share their experience in helping dialysis patients travel abroad.
For many hemodialysis patients, a fixed weekly dialysis schedule can affect plans for overseas travel. Below are the dialysis-related arrangements the speaker described (information drawn from the Weiquan Travel website and fan page; for reference only).
1. Before departure: cross-border medical coordination
The team contacts the patient’s dialysis facility in Taiwan and the dialysis center at the destination to exchange medical records. This involves not only booking a bed but also treatment settings such as the choice of dialyzer, needle size, ultrafiltration rate and heparin dose, so that the overseas unit knows the patient’s treatment details.
2. During the trip: a nurse travels with the group
The speaker said a nurse accompanies the group, and blood pressure is measured and recorded daily.
(This site does not recommend travel services. Before traveling abroad, please discuss it with your dialysis physician.)
