This year Dr. Ta-Wei Su was invited to speak at the Lions for the third time
This year’s topic continued beyond medical expertise and added the element of holistic care: body, mind and spirit
Dr. Su began with his vascular surgery expertise, introducing new treatments for aortic disease and varicose veins
He then moved to healthy eating: how to eat healthily and in a balanced way, stressing the importance of chewing slowly and enjoying food with a grateful heart
Besides stressing the importance of exercise, he introduced small exercises that can be done anytime to look after the body
These included the scientific qigong of Dr. Si-Chen Lee, former president of National Taiwan University, and the exercises of Dr. Jui-Yun Hsu for boosting immunity and strengthening energy
Dr. Su led everyone in these small exercises, and the Lions members on site took part enthusiastically, experiencing Dr. Lee’s scientific qigong first-hand: pinching the fingers and shaking the hands

Health of the mind and spirit is often overlooked, yet is critically important
At the talk Dr. Su introduced mindfulness and then breathing practice, learning to settle the mood
He explained the effect of sitting meditation on body, mind and spirit, and reminded everyone to keep positive, optimistic thinking, living in the present, in every moment
Finding one’s own heart again and holding an attitude of gratitude, surrender and inquiry
In his talk Dr. Su shared his own experience and insight from his many years of practicing medicine
Through this talk, he hopes more people will recognize multi-level health of body, mind and spirit and so achieve health promotion through holistic care
