This year’s “Hemodialysis Access Annual Symposium: 2025 Smart Medicine for the Future” is approaching, and we are honored to invite Mei-Lien Hu, nurse practitioner and Ministry-of-Education-accredited lecturer, who will share the concept of mindfulness and its positive applications in the healthcare workplace. Before the symposium opens, let us look forward to getting to know Mei-Lien Hu better and prepare for the exchange ahead.
Healthcare background
Mei-Lien Hu is an expert with rich experience in both healthcare and mindfulness. She combines decades of professional nursing experience with mindfulness practice, aiming to promote mindfulness in high-pressure medical settings and in daily life.
Senior nursing practice: Ms. Hu is a nurse practitioner at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Linkou, with more than 38 years of clinical nursing experience. Her deep medical background lets her meet the real needs of healthcare workers and bring mindfulness effectively into actual care settings.
Academic achievement: Ms. Hu holds a master’s degree from the Graduate Institute of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Nursing, National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Teaching and mentoring: she also teaches the “Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction” course at the General Education Center of Chang Gung University and is an industry mentor for the Department of Nursing at Asia Eastern University of Science and Technology, passing her expertise and practical experience on to a new generation of healthcare workers.
Mindfulness qualifications
Ms. Hu began learning and practicing mindfulness in 2013, accumulating rich experience in teaching and guiding mindfulness.
MBSR teacher: formally certified through the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher training system of “Taiwan Mindfulness Workshop,” recognized by MBSR founder Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, and has personally taken part in workshops held in Taiwan by Dr. Kabat-Zinn.
Qualified facilitator: a qualified mindfulness facilitator certified by the Taiwan Mindfulness Development Association, and a mindfulness instructor for caregivers with the Taiwan Mindfulness Care Association.
Continuing development: she has taken part in an introductory Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) workshop, an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helper workshop, and the SIY (Search Inside Yourself Program) course, to keep deepening her mindfulness knowledge and skills.
Ms. Hu’s introduction to mindfulness came while she was pursuing her master’s degree. She read “Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction: Starting with a Raisin” and became keenly interested. Her master’s research examined the benefits of mindfulness in helping patients with infertility reduce stress, improve sleep quality, concentrate and increase awareness. Inspired by the benefits of mindfulness, she resolved to become a mindfulness teacher, sharing it with healthcare colleagues in high-pressure settings, weaving it into nursing practice and daily life, and helping others cope with stress and find inner calm. She understands the importance of balance of body and mind, and with the belief that “settling yourself is an asset you will never use up,” she actively helps healthcare colleagues and patients improve their quality of life through mindfulness practice.
